96 Toyota Corolla with 227,000 miles for $1500...what do you think?

My hubby and I recently went to look at a '96 Toyota Corolla that has 227,000 miles on it and they're asking $1500 for it, which is about our limit on spending at the moment. He needs a good dependable car basically just to get him back and forth to work, but we're a little worried about the high mileage. The reviews on this particular car make/model seem to be really good and I just wondered if the general public has had experience with buying a used car with this kind of mileage.
