Dell Studio laptop typing?

I have a 1-month old Dell Studio laptop and have been having major keyboard issues. When I type fast, it seems to be using the Ctrl key in conjunction with the letters I'm typing, so all sorts of windows pop up. And I know I'm staying away from the Ctrl key. I'm hoping it's just some setting. It's so annoying, it's taken me forever to type this. Please help!
