Why doesn't Voldemort realize that Snape has betrayed him?

In the first book when Voldemort exists only on the back of Quirrel's (sp?) head, how is it that he never suspects Snape of being disloyal to him? Is there something I missed? It seems to me that at some point, he would have heard Snape's conversations with Quirrel and at least suspected that something was wrong.
