What did German Jewish men around the year 1900 do for a living that made them wealthy?

A lot of Jewish men were in finance, banking, moneylending etc. Many had their own businesses, trading in various items, in the Netherlands for example a lot of Jews were in the jewellery business and I daresay there were German jews who were in jewellery as well. Or trading in other kinds of goods.
