Help with 9 month old ... need to get stuff done around house.?

Any ideas from stay at home moms or any moms about the best way to get things done around the house with my 9 month old home? He can entertain himself with toys for a short period of time, but if he looks up and I'm out of the room, the crying starts. And when i am in the room, I'm either playing with him, or he is playing right next to me... never too far away. I've given him his own toys (baby toys), pots and pans, cups, magazines, and he has a bouncer (he has long since outgrown his exersaucer which he used to love, darn!). I've tried anything that will entertain him... I even keep cartoons on and I always said I would NEVER let the tv entertain my child. But again, all of these only work for a short period, he seems to get bored easily. The other issue is that if I leave him for even 5 minutes, it seems he is trying to get to something I don't want him to (despite ALL of the things around him that are just for him!). Any suggestions?
